The Satvik Kitchen & Sacred Food Science
In the Bhagavad Gita (17.8), Lord Krishna describes Satvik food as that which augments vitality, energy, vigor, health, happiness, and cheerfulness. Learn how conscious ingredients and mindful preparation purify both body and mind.
Sattva (सत्त्व) • Purity & Calm
Fresh, organic, lightly cooked foods prepared with love: sun-ripened fruits, soaked nuts, whole grains, yellow lentils, pure A2 ghee, and wild mountain herbs. Promotes mental clarity, compassion, and effortless meditation.
Rajas (रजस्) • Passion & Motion
Overly spicy, pungent, salty, sour, or stimulating substances like chili, caffeine, garlic, and onions. They agitate the nervous system and fuel restlessness, competition, and sensory desire.
Tamas (तमस्) • Heaviness & Inertia
Stale, reheated, processed, frozen, chemical-laden, or meat foods that lack life-force (Prana). They induce physical heaviness, mental dullness, lethargy, and cloud spiritual intuition.

The 5 Sacred Rules of Satvik Food Preparation
1Bhavana (Mindset of the Cook)
Food absorbs the mental state of the preparer. Cook with gratitude, peace, or chant divine mantras (e.g. Gayatri Mantra). Never cook in anger or agitation.
2Prana Window (3 Hours)
Classical Ayurveda advises consuming cooked food within 3 to 4 hours of preparation. After 3 hours, subtle life-force depletes and Tamasic inertia accumulates.
3Naivedyam (First Offering)
Before tasting, offer the freshly cooked meal mentally or physically to the Divine (Prasadam). This consecrates the food and cleanses energetic karmic debts.
